Hello, my name is Laura Iturralde. I grew up in Argentina very close to Rio de la Plata (the widest river in the world) and developed an appreciation for water very early on. Here, in St. Louis, I am once again surrounded by water. I am excited to teach the children of St. Louis!
Over my 48 year career, I have taught thousands of children in Argentina, Chile, Houston and Miami. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and have always specialized in swimming. As a P.E. teacher, I worked with children of all ages, and learned strategies to develop good rapport with all temperaments.
As a mother of 3 adult children, and now 8 grandchildren, I know the anxiety that parents have when their own children don’t know how to swim yet. My goal is to help my students enjoy the feeling of water as much as I do. There is something magical about one’s freedom of movement when the laws of gravity are not at play. My greatest accomplishment is to help a child work through fear and develop trust, which goes further than swimming itself. These children end up being like family to me.
I speak Spanish and English, so classes can be done in either language.
I look forward to working with you and your child!
